I have just returned from a conference in which I heard Bill Plotkin say something profound about the ego and the soul. He reported that it was his belief that during the first half of a person’s life, the soul served the ego; in the second half of life, the ego was to serve the soul.
This means, he continued, that all the little internal whispers and pushes we get to do this or go there, is the soul wanting the ego to gather experience and to gain skills. This experience and the skills gained would eventually become the means by which ego could serve the soul.
This partnership is created for each one of us to take our unique place in the web of life, bearing the internal gift we were born with, made a reality by the ego. How cool is that?
